Let me guess it’s Wednesday and you’re looking for a new way to relieve the mid-week stress. Yes? No? Well - I am. With too much on my plate and not enough rest, I just want to hide in a corner and sleep.
Sleeping is not an option, but I’m also kind of bored of the same every night hang-outs! If you are too, I highly recommend checking out one of my favorite local Atlanta musicians - Jon Cole - and his new project - The Good Lookins - at Emory’s Bread Coffeehouse tonight. No music has been uploaded to the Myspace yet - BUT I promise you won’t be upset. This is, I believe the debut of The Good Lookins - so make sure to come out and support. You know I’ve never let you down sweet Atlanta.

(Plus, look how cute Jon and Jess are. C’mon!)
On that note - A band that was cyber-broken-in by DaFC.com, some of the coolest country lovers I know, Missy Gossip and the Secret Keepers, are playing at 1-Five-0 tomorrow night! I think its like 5 bucks, but the money goes to charity and you get free pizza and beer! Make sure to check them out. The band is gearing up for a tour this fall with Nashville band , Danger Bear and um, its gonna rock your socks. I promise.
UPCOMING SHOWS THAT IM FREAKING ABOUT:
Dr. Dog, Delta Spirit, and Seth Kauffman - Saturday, September 6 at The Earl
The Black Keys - Thursday, October 2 at The Tabernacle

Kim Ware, aka The Good Graces, “never intended to make a break-up record” but when Summer 2008 found Kim recouping from her divorce a few years earlier, the songwriting came remarkably easy for her. And while the divorce was definitely a focus, she found a way to temper the depressing topics with lighthearted tales of hope.
Planting her musical roots in Wilmington, NC, Kim was the first of several drummers for underground legends Tex Svengali, and went on to form the band Pacer, who released two albums on Kim’s own eskimo kiss label and embarked on a few tours up and down the east coast over the course of their four-year existence.
Kim tracked a few songs with acclaimed producer Jerry Kee (Superchunk, Polvo, Kingsbury Manx) at his Duck-Kee studio in Mebane, and the rest with Jay Manley (Velvet) at his home studio.
For the Duck-Kee sessions Kim brought along her friend John McNicholas to play electric guitar. John joins her for most of The Good Graces live shows and has a way of turning her music into an interesting folk/shoegaze hybrid. His melodic touches on “Over It,” “What’s Wrong,” and “Unhappy Ending” really help the songs branch out from their acoustic folk-pop foundation and give them a spacey, atmospheric feel.
Check out a track from their upcoming album, “Sunset Over Saxapahaw,” coming out in late October 2008:

Last August, MINT Gallery opened its space with MIXT, a show celebrating the relationship between music and visual art through the use of mixtapes. They are doing it again, but this year they’re gearing the exhibit to showcase the thriving local music scene in Atlanta. Local artists, including members of Atlanta musical acts such as Judi Chicago, Vera Fang, and Sealions, representatives from Lenny’s Bar as well as singer songwriters and experimental musicians, have contributed to the exhibit.
Through visual art alongside mixtapes created by the artists, MINT hopes to get a glimpse of the creativity and influences of Atlanta’s music community as well as help to bridge the gap between the underground arts and music scenes.
“reMIXT” will also feature a local music raffle where one dollar tickets could win you your choice of music and swag provided by local bands.
Artists include: Ben Coleman, Travis Thatcher, Jason Travis, Andre Paraguassu, Sunni Johnson, Mack Williams, Amanda Goodbread, Bean Summer, Robert Peterson, Mat Glaser, Erin Baker, Joe Sikes, Philip Jones, Lindsay Appel, Colin Brag, Danielle Harris
MINT is a non-profit organization located in Atlanta, Georgia that is dedicated to providing a networking conduit for Georgia’s art communities. Their goal is to facilitate a non-judgmental environment where ideas can be exchanged freely through classes, networking events and exhibitions. MINT believes that fostering the creative impulses of the community will provide an outlet for imagination and cooperation by bringing together both accomplished and novice artists.
MINT is located at 684 John Wesley Dobbs Ave, Unit B, Atlanta, GA 30312
